Home Carpentry Project: Two-Story Play Structure
A two-story play structure built to grow with a family, starting as a kid’s dream fort and later transforming into a backyard wine shed for the parents. Designed for durability, imagination, and flexibility, it’s a space that evolves alongside the people who use it.
This project started with the challenge of creating a play structure that wouldn’t be outgrown in a few years. Using a two-level frame, I designed a space that encourages creative play now and practical reuse later. The structure features reinforced framing, weather-sealed materials, and safe climbing access suitable for young kids, while maintaining the proportions and integrity to repurpose into a cozy retreat down the line. Each level was built with future adaptability in mind: detachable panels, modular flooring, and insulated wall options to make conversion simple. The overall aesthetic blends playful energy with architectural longevity, using natural wood finishes and color accents that feel at home in both a play yard and an adult hangout space. What began as a child’s adventure zone will one day become the family’s quiet corner, a reminder that good design grows with its users.
